I studied architecture and hold a B.Building Arts degree from the University of Port Elizabeth (1994). In 2012, I completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Fine Art, with distinction, at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town. Recently I obtained a Master of Fine Art degree with distinction also at UCT.

From 1995 to 2004 I practised as an interior architect in South Africa, working for companies such as Design House, Metropolis Design and Stefan Antoni Architects. In the United Kingdom I assisted the CADA Group with the restoration of the Harrods Food Halls. Upon my return from the UK, I owned and directed Blue Seven Interior Design in Cape Town.
It was in 2004 that I started to work with indigenous flowers as subject matter. I joined Julia Teale at the Spencer Street Studios and attended workshops by the botanical artist Vicky Thomas. What was intended as a year-long sabbatical turned into a career-shift.
In 2011 I decided to pursue an academic career and applied to study at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, where I completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Fine Art in 2012. My practice developed to include a search for rare and threatened flowers in their natural habitats, by collaborating with local scientists in the fields of ecology, botany and horticulture. I have recently completed a Master of Fine Art degree at Michaelis, exploring flower painting and ecophilosophy within the context of an environmental crisis. My research title is Spore - Tracing Threatened Indigenous Flowers in the Breede River Valley: An Exploration of Interrelatedness. More about this body of work can be seen on the blog site:
This year I have enrolled for a PhD with the Environmental Humanities South Department at UCT to pursue a trans-disciplinary research project with Fine Arts as specialization.
